《誰掌你生命?》

這事以後,到了猶太人的一個節期,耶穌就上耶路撒冷去。 2 在耶路撒冷,靠近羊門有一個池子,希伯來話叫作畢士大,旁邊有五個廊子; 3 裏面躺着瞎眼的、瘸腿的、血氣枯乾的許多病人。 在那裏有一個人,病了三十八年。 耶穌看見他躺着,知道他病了許久,就問他說:「你要痊癒嗎?」 病人回答說:「先生,水動的時候,沒有人把我放在池子裏;我正去的時候,就有別人比我先下去。」 耶穌對他說:「起來,拿你的褥子走吧!」 9 那人立刻痊癒,就拿起褥子來走了。 10 那天是安息日,所以猶太人對那醫好的人說:「今天是安息日,你拿褥子是不可的。」 11 他卻回答說:「那使我痊癒的,對我說:『拿你的褥子走吧。』」 12 他們問他說:「對你說『拿褥子走』的是甚麼人?」 13 那醫好的人不知道是誰;因為那裏的人多,耶穌已經躲開了。 14 後來耶穌在殿裏遇見他,對他說:「你已經痊癒了,不要再犯罪,恐怕你遭遇的更加利害。」 15 那人就去告訴猶太人,使他痊癒的是耶穌。 16 所以猶太人逼迫耶穌,因為祂在安息日做了這事。 17 耶穌就對他們說:「我父做事直到如今,我也做事。」 18 所以猶太人越發想要殺祂;因祂不但犯了安息日,並且稱神為祂的父,將自己和神當作平等。

19 耶穌對他們說:「我實實在在地告訴你們,子憑着自己不能做甚麼,惟有看見父所做的,子才能做;父所做的事,子也照樣做。 20 父愛子,將自己所做的一切事指給祂看,還要將比這更大的事指給祂看,叫你們希奇。 21 父怎樣叫死人起來,使他們活着,子也照樣隨自己的意思使人活着。 22 父不審判甚麼人,乃將審判的事全交與子, 23 叫人都尊敬子如同尊敬父一樣。不尊敬子的,就是不尊敬差子來的父。 24 我實實在在地告訴你們,那聽我話、又信差我來者的,就有永生;不至於定罪,是已經出死入生了。(約翰福音五1-24)

1 Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. 3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. 5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, He asked him, “Do you want to get well?” 7 “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” 8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” 9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, 10 and so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.” 11 But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’ ” 12 So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?” 13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. 14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well. 16 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute Him. 17 In His defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I too am working.” 18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill Him; not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does. Yes, and He will show Him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom He is pleased to give it. 22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent Him. 24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. (John 5:1-24)

在畢士大池旁,有一個病了三十八年的人。耶穌主動問他:「你要痊癒嗎?」這問題看似簡單,卻直指核心 —— 你是否真的想改變?那人沒有正面回答,只是不斷解釋自己的限制:沒有人幫助、總是輪不到自己。長久以來,他把生命的可能性,交在環境與他人手中。

但耶穌沒有等條件成熟,只說:「起來,拿你的褥子走吧!」(v.8) 沒有水動,沒有輔助,只有一句話。當那人選擇回應,他就立刻得了醫治。原來,真正改變生命的,不是機會,而是對主話語的信靠。

然而,事情卻引發爭議。猶太人因為安息日而指責耶穌,顯出他們對權柄的理解仍停留在制度與規條。耶穌卻宣告,祂與父同工,祂所作的就是父所作的,並且祂有權柄賜生命、施行審判 (參v.19-23) 。這不只是醫治一個人,而是揭示一個更大的問題:誰才真正掌管生命?

今天,我們或許沒有躺在池旁,卻同樣會把生命交給環境、習慣或制度。但耶穌邀請我們,看見真正的主權在祂手中。你願意讓誰掌管你的生命?

【釋經亮點】

畢士大池被描述為有人等候「水動」,因為傳說水動時下去的人就會得醫治 (部分抄本見第四節:因為有天使按時下池子攪動那水,水動之後,誰先下去,無論害甚麼病就痊癒了)。歷代學者對此有不同看法:有些認為這是早期流傳的民間傳說,後來被抄本補充進經文;也有研究指出,該池可能與地下泉水或間歇性湧動有關,因此水確實會出現自然攪動的現象。考古亦發現畢士大池是一個雙池結構,這結構可能與療養用途有關,增加了「水有醫治力」的理解。

然而,經文要表達的關鍵不在於水是否真的動,而在於人的盼望寄託在哪裡。當時不少猶太人可能相信這是神蹟的途徑,因此長期等待機會臨到;但耶穌卻沒有等水動,直接用話語醫治,顯明真正的能力不在水,而在祂自己。

這對我們是一個提醒:人很容易把盼望放在某些「條件」、「時機」或「方法」上,以為只要等對時刻就能改變。但福音指出,生命的轉變不在於外在是否「動」,而在於是否回應主的話。真正的問題不是機會何時來,而是當主說話時,我是否願意起來。

反思:信主後,我是否仍然將生命交給環境、習慣或他人的影響?當神的話臨到時,我會立即回應,還是繼續找理由?我對耶穌的認識,是停留在幫助者,還是生命的主?

禱告:主耶穌,祢是那位掌管生命的主,但我很多時卻把生命交給環境與自己。求祢幫助我,不再停留在無力與藉口之中,而是願意回應祢的話。當祢呼喚我「起來」的時候,給我信心去行動。也求祢更新我對祢的認識,使我不只是尋求祢的幫助,而是真正讓祢作我生命的主。願我的一生,不再由自己掌控,而是交在祢手中。以上禱告,奉主耶穌的名求,阿們。
